I've been busy crocheting up some great new colorful coaster sets for the shop. My latest batch added to the coasters' collection are bright and colorful, featuring rainbows, pinks, and blues.
These are my favorite of the new coaster sets I listed. This blue-based cotton yarn is delicate, yet durable, and features a robust array of soothing hues. The yarn itself was part of an ice cream themed line, but the colors reminded me more of the beach than the eponymous blueberry ice cream flavor.
As you can see, there is variation in colors between individual coasters. Be assured, though, that any set will have a full and balanced range of blue and teal.
P.S. I have a tan version of the set coming to the shop soon, so keep your eye out for those!
Continuing with the strictly blue theme, the Blue & White Granny Square Colorful Coasters feature a blue and white gradient with white edging. They are a more traditional granny square style and measure approximately 4 x 4 inches.
Featuring a subtle blue gradient and white accents, the Blue & White Granny Square Colorful Coasters make for great home decor or the perfect housewarming gift. Durable and decorative, these colorful coasters are ideal for the home, office, or anywhere you want a bit of soothing color.

This particular floral-inspired coasters set is a great way to add some color to your coffee table or desk. These coasters offer subtle blues and peachy pink. Handmade with a cotton gradient yarn, they are both bright yet understated.
As with all of my coasters, these are machine washable. I recommend putting them in a delicates bag to wash and then laying them flat to dry on a towel.

Last, but not least, the Rainbow Shimmer Coasters. This lively set features a rich rainbow of colors in an intricate floral-inspired design. These handmade pieces feature a bright rainbow gradient yarn with a subtle sheen.
I currently have two sets of the Rainbow Shimmer Floral-Inspired Colorful Coasters available here.
Over on my lifestyle blog, I shared a post about the cottagecore aesthetic that has become so popular on Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. As I mentioned in that post researching the trend made me realize just how much it has inadvertently impacted my own creative style, both with my photography and my crochet work.
As someone who was really into all the boho home and shabby chic styles of the early 2000s and 2010s, it's not too surprising that I like the cottagecore vibe. Combine that with my love of intricate and almost lacy crochet and it makes total sense.
While many of my pieces probably fit the cottagecore or boho-chic category well, the Silver & Multicolor Glitter 4.5 Inch Floral Inspired Crochet Coasters Set stands out to me as the best example of these motifs.
With a neutral base, these simple-yet-intricate coasters feature subtle streams of multicolor glitter. They add both color and texture to the home, while bringing the mind back to the idea of handcrafted heirlooms.
Besides being sweet and subtle home decor, the coasters are affordable finds, whether you're shopping for yourself or for a gift. A set costs $15 and features four handmade floral inspired coasters, crocheted with care by yours truly.
The coasters each measure approximately 4.5 inches across and are easily washed either by hand or in a delicates bag with the regular wash. I recommend laying them flat to dry.
If silver isn't quite your color, don't worry. There are a number of other great boho-chic floral inspired sets to choose from.
I didn't realize it was Granny Square Day until I saw a friend post about it on Instagram.
In fact, I didn't realize granny square day was even a thing! I'm excited that it is, though, because it's one of my favorite styles to crochet.
Basically, a granny square is any square piece of crochet work produced by working outward from a central circle. There is any number of designs you can make with them, and some are incredibly intricate, resembling flowers, mandalas, or lace (look it up on Pinterest if you're curious - but be prepared to fall down a creative rabbit hole!).
Personally, I use the granny square style all the time in my crochet work. The majority of my Critter Crafting Cat mats are made with this style (just larger versions of them), and a number of my coaster sets are granny squares in a super traditional sense.
When I make large blankets, they're often made up of granny squares, whether of a solid color or different colors.
Each of the listings in my shop will have their dimensions in the product details, but the majority of my Critter Crafting Cat Mats measure approximately 15 inches by 15 inches.
I say approximately for two reasons. First, because there is some natural variation due to the handmade nature of the pet blankets. Second, I say this because the Cat Mats stretch out a bit with use, wash, and wear. This is perfectly natural and to be expected.
If you would like a larger size, or a particular shape, please feel free to email me and request a custom order! I am happy to accommodate such custom requests.
All of the Critter Crafting Cat Mats are extremely durable!
I craft these little handmade blankets with pet safe, machine washable yarn that is able to take a beating. Whether your furbaby likes to wrestle with it or simply lounge on it, the Cat Mat will last you a long time.
For example, as I write this, Louis is lounging on the original Cat Mat that I made almost seven years ago when I first adopted him! How’s that for durability?

By specializing in modern crochet home decor, Critter Crafting has created colorful drink coasters that will brighten any coffee table.
My crochet coaster sets are durable and easy to clean, making them a low-maintenance item. Technically the yarn is machine washable, but I find them easier to just hand wash and lay flat to dry on top of a towel or wash cloth. If they are folded up and become creased, simply stick a book on top of them to flatten them out. Really, they add a pop of color without requiring any real attention or care!

Emory, one of our talented Critter Crafting meowdels, wants to share 5 things you might not know about her. Here are 5 things you might not know about Emory:
1. I met Emory when volunteering at an animal rescue during my law school orientation week. Her hudad had been looking for a kitten for some time, and I texted him that he had to meet this cat. Brett adopted Emory that night.
2. Emory is named after her hudad's alma mater, Emory University!
3. Emory LOVES feather stick toys. She and her hudad play one-on-one with a feather stick toy every night. She really enjoys this bonding time with him, I think since she had been an only cat before we moved in together.
4. Emory is the only one of our cats to have travelled by plane! Emory visited hudad's family in Maine a few summers ago. She did very well on the flight and enjoyed the trip.
5. Emory is our chattiest cat. She makes the cutest little squeaks all day long, especially when she wants something. Of course, any time I try to record it, she falls silent. But, believe me, she's chatty and it's adorably hilarious.
Did any of this surprise you about Emory?

]]>Louis shared 5 things you might not know about him, since we have a bunch of new faces around, so now it's Olivia's turn! Here are 5 things you might not know about Olivia:
1. Olivia, like Louis, is polydactyl. She has extra toes on the front and back paws!
2. Olivia was rescued from a Gainesville shelter with her two litter mates, Fergus and Elaine. Fergus was adopted by hugramma @peggyptc but unfortunately passed due to FIP. Elaine was adopted by my cousin, and is doing well in her home.
3. Olivia has the core strength of a gymnast. Where Louis and, to an extent, Emory are pretty much liquid when you hold them, Olivia goes pretty rigid and will jump out of your arms. She usually pulls the same move when I try to trim her (many) nails, so that's a two-person job.
4. That being said, Olivia is a total cuddle bug in her own way. Olivia may not be a lap cat, but she loves to snuggle on her own terms. Whether that's by climbing all over me on the couch, or by weaving through my feet as I walk, she's never far from my side. I call her my little shadow because of this.
5. Olivia loves human food. Her two favorites are spinach and yogurt. If I open the crisper in the refrigerator, Olivia will come over because she knows it's spinach time!
Does any of this remind you of your furbaby?
P.S. Critter Crafting Cat Mats make great kitty capes, as Olivia demonstrates here!

]]>Lately, I’ve been working on a number of new pieces for my shop, including new patterns and designs. Critter Crafting started out with Cat Mats, but has become so much more.
One of my most recent crochet interest for my shop has been colorful baby blankets. I’ve been making baby blankets for some time, but have recently started to expand the styles of blanket that I make.
I’ve made baby blankets in the past, but it had been some time since I had any available in my crochet shop. I currently have a couple beautiful, handmade baby blankets available in the Critter Crafting crochet shop, with more on the way. Baby blankets start at $35.
The typical Critter Crafting hand crocheted baby blanket measures around 20 inches by 30 inches, give or take. Like with all crochet blankets, the baby blankets will likely stretch out a bit with use, wash, and wear. They are machine washable and can be thrown in the dryer just fine.
Handmade with care, the colorful Critter Crafting baby blankets make great gifts for new parents in your life. If you’re interested in a custom color combination, please feel free to reach out to me.

]]>Hello all! Louis, my first cat and head meowdel for Critter Crafting, wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing this Meow Monday!
We have a bunch of new faces around, so Louis wanted to introduce himself again by sharing 5 things you might not know about him!
1. Louis is polydactyl, meaning he has extra toes on his front paws. He, unlike Olivia, has the normal number of toes on his back paws.
2. Louis is a rescue cat! I rescued Louis from a shelter in Gainesville in 2014. He was found alone as a 1 month old kitten and had a broken leg that they almost had to amputate! The leg healed up on all on its own.
3. Louis is a total snuggle bug. If anyone ever tells you that cats are never snuggly, just show them Louis. He spends most evenings on my lap, and usually tries to sleep on my head if he can.
4. Louis' favorite treats are the Churu lickable cat treats. He and Olivia share a tube of this every night and Louis will come and get me if I'm late for treat time.
5. Louis is a great big brother to Olivia, our gray tabby, and is besties with Emory, our gray and white kitty. Louis likes to groom and snuggle with both, although this usually turns into wrestling.
You can keep up with King Louis -- and my two other gorgeous kitties, Olivia and Emory, on Instagram here!
P.S. bonus fact: Louis is the most cooperative meowdel. In this photo, he's lounging on a Critter Crafting Cat Mats that I had previously available for sale. Isn't he a natural!? Check out all of my available Cat Mats here 🐾🧶✨

My most recent crochet obsession for my shop has been colorful coasters. I’ve been making crochet coasters for some time, but have recently breathed new life into the project.
The colorful crochet coaster sets in my shop add some vibrance to your morning coffee routine. Handmade with durable yarn, the coasters are easy to clean and come in a few styles. There are a number of traditional square coaster styles available, including this fun jewel tone set, as well as my new favorite floral-inspired design.
The majority of the coaster sets feature four coasters (a few listings feature sets of fewer coasters, but that is clearly noted in the listing title). Sets of four coasters start at $12. Specific sizes are included in each product description, but most of the coasters measure between four and five inches across.
Notably, the coasters are machine washable, as they are made with cotton or acrylic style yarns. I recommend washing them in a delicates bag if you do use the washing machine. Personally, I recommend hand washing them with a little soap and water. Lay them flat to dry on a towel and they’ll be refreshed in no time. If they need to flatten out a bit, simply place a book on top of them once they’re dried.
Whether you’re looking to brighten up your living room, or for a great housewarming gift idea, my Critter Crafting crochet coaster sets are sure to please.
If you’re interested in a custom coaster set in a particular color scheme, please feel free to reach out to me.
